Lock
Repair
Houston
Need lock repair in Houston for a sticking key, loose handle or door that will not secure? We inspect the lock and the way the door closes, then explain the repair or replacement options.
Find the Fault
Before Replacing the Lock
A deadbolt that turns easily with the door open but catches when it is shut may have an alignment problem. A loose lever or a key that binds can point to different faults. Describing the symptom helps us assess the complete opening instead of assuming the cylinder needs replacing.
30Min Locksmith helps with home and business lock problems across Houston. We identify the affected parts and explain the proposed work and price. If the hardware is damaged beyond a practical repair, our lock replacement guide explains what to consider before choosing new hardware.
Sticking Deadbolts
Describe whether the key turns and whether the bolt moves freely. A difference between operation with the door open and closed can point to alignment or strike issues as well as lock wear.
Loose Handles & Levers
A handle that moves loosely, sags or does not operate the latch needs inspection. Fixings, internal wear and the latch mechanism can produce similar symptoms but call for different work.
Latches That Do Not Catch
A door that appears shut but does not latch may involve the strike, door position or latch itself. Secure operation means the agreed hardware engages properly without repeated lifting or forcing.
Broken Keys in Locks
Leave the broken piece as it is and keep any remaining key parts. Extraction and checking the cylinder are separate from replacing the key. Glue or improvised tools can complicate the repair.
Storefront & Office Locks
Commercial hardware must fit the opening and how the space is used. Identify the affected door and approval contact. A closer or hinge issue may be part of the problem even when the complaint is that the door will not lock.
Damaged Lock Hardware
Worn or broken parts may need replacement when a dependable repair is not practical. Damage to the surrounding door or frame can require additional work beyond the lock; the scope should make that distinction clear.
Repair, Rekey or Replace?
Each Solves a Different Problem
Decide whether you need the door to work properly, the old keys to stop working, or both. A repair can restore operation without changing the key; rekeying can change access without correcting a mechanical fault.
Repair the operation
Repair aims to correct a fault such as a loose fitting, failed component or unsuitable alignment. The recommended work should explain the symptom, the affected part and how operation will be checked afterward.
Rekey the access
If the hardware works but an old key should stop opening it, rekeying may be suitable. A lost key is an access issue even when the door operates perfectly. Rekeying does not by itself fix damaged or binding hardware.
Replace when appropriate
Replacement may be suitable if parts are unavailable, the hardware is too worn or the lock does not fit the intended use. A different model may need door preparation or other work. Consider the complete opening, not just a matching finish.

Lock Repair FAQs
Why does my lock work with the door open but not closed?
The bolt or latch may not be meeting the strike correctly when the door closes. Door position and frame alignment can affect operation. Mention this difference during the assessment instead of assuming a new key or cylinder will solve it.
Should I keep forcing a key that is hard to turn?
No. Stop if the key or mechanism is binding; forcing it can break the key or damage the hardware. Keep any remaining keys or broken pieces and describe when the problem began.
Can every damaged lock be repaired?
No. The condition, intended use and availability of suitable parts matter. A worn or damaged mechanism may be better replaced. The locksmith should explain why the proposed option addresses the fault.
Will a new key fix a damaged lock?
Only if the key is the actual cause and the lock is otherwise suitable. A worn latch, loose component or alignment problem needs different work. Key replacement should not substitute for assessing the door and hardware.
Do you repair commercial door hardware?
We help with commercial lock and door-hardware problems, subject to the existing opening and suitable parts. Tell us whether the issue is closing, latching, locking or opening, and identify the authorized approval contact.
What if the door or frame is damaged too?
Explain that when arranging the visit. Lock work alone may not restore a damaged opening, and another trade or a wider repair scope may be needed. We distinguish the lock service from separate door or frame work.
Can repair and rekeying be done during the same visit?
They can be discussed together when the hardware and job are suitable. Repair addresses the fault; rekeying changes the working key. Identify both goals before the scope and price are agreed.
What should I check when the repair is finished?
Try normal opening, closing, latching and locking, along with the keys included in the job. Ask about any remaining concerns and the applicable warranty terms. Keep the service date and invoice or job details for follow-up.
